Addiction is a disease and it doesn't happen overnight. Addiction is progressive and considered as cunning, baffling, powerful and chronic disease. Addiction is a family disease and it is proved to be grown in the dysfunctional families. Addiction is a gradual progression and so thus it is to be understood that the treatment and recovery process takes time. Many people who suffer from addiction reportedly have a “Co-Occurring Disease” which means along suffering with the primary disease of addiction, they have at least one mental health issue. This can be an anxiety disorder, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Acute Depression, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), Bipolar Disorder, a Borderline Personality Disorder, or Schizophrenia. Service Providers at Nirmaan are well aware of these phenomenon. The treatment provided at Nirmaan is Evidence-Based which means after thorough orientation of a Patient, Nirmaan individualized the treatment policy depending upon facts and events related to the Patient. Service Providers & the Yoga therapist at Nirmaan carried out each activity inside the center for better improvement of the Patient. Moreover, Addiction as a family disease can predispose someone to addiction on the basis of the function-ability of the family, but it is not a guaranteed all the time for everyone. The fact is that no one factor is sufficient to grow addiction in someone. The disease has been influenced by many factors including biological, environmental, geographical and various level of life stresses and circumstances. The more you have the factors, the quick you move towards growing addiction. It even depends upon the Family history, genetics, peer pressure, and the age at which chemical substance were first tried. Just as each person is unique, the nature of their disease will be unique. Some of us mistakenly think that addicts are lack of morals and principles. But this is simply untrue; addiction is a mental condition, and should be treated by professionals. Addiction cannot be arrested by willpower, that doesn’t mean willingness is a useless. There is a vast difference between willpower and willingness in the concept of recovery. Many people think that what the addict needs is willpower, but this is not the truth. When a person has already lost control over a drug or activity, attempts to control behavior and compulsion almost never work. Because the source of addiction isn't the drug or activity itself but a compulsive, impulsive behavior and a repetitive desire for change the real mood or to make an escape from the reality.
Recovery from addiction cannot be achieved overnight. It’s a process. Even in some particular cases, recovery from Addiction becomes a very long term & painful process for an addict and as well as for the people related to the addict. Drug addiction and alcoholism is a relapse prone disease. Maintaining sobriety and clean time depends upon the individual who has to follow the guidelines set by Nirmaan which includes following 12 step program, scheduled follow ups with the center, applying the rehab learning in mainstream and attending Anonymity Based meetings regularly. After getting released from the course on completion, Nirmaan use to support the Patient in all the above required activities so that he can maintain his sobriety in the long run. Here, the role of the family is much more important as because it has been proven that Families who actively participate in the treatment process can also better understand their loved ones and how they feel. After all, the families who have never experienced addiction themselves, find it difficult to understand or to relate with an Addict. During treatment, Nirmaan and a Patient will work on better communication – something that benefits everyone involved. Service Providers can also reflect ideas to the family members on how to cope with the scars of the past and move forward to heal and forgive. Those closest to the addict must participate in the healing process. To begin, however, family members must understand that addiction is a disease. Attending a course and completing a 90 days treatment program at Nirmaan is always not enough. Nirmaan is dedicated to provide every patient with appropriate tools to manage the disease and use them on the right time, with right people in the right situation. Recovery from addiction is a lifelong process and the people in recovery use to live in one day at a time basis. This is why an Addict in recovery never call himself “ Recovered “ rather choose to refer himself as a “Recovering Addict” — as the term “ Recovering Addict “ serves as a permanent reminder that we are never fully cured and Recovery is a Lifelong Process. If you think you can live the same lifestyle as you did before coming to Nirmaan, you are on the fast track to relapse. Addiction recovery requires a change in the lifestyle — including the activities you participate in, the people you hang out with and the way you think or behave. It must be understood that during the course period at Nirmaan, a patient will remain abstain from the use of any kind of mood altering chemical which does not mean the illness is stopped. Since we know that Addiction is a cunning, baffling, powerful, chronic and a Progressive disease, the progression continues even though the chemical use is discontinued. There is always a potential for relapse. Treatment, therefore is no guarantee of recovery. Nirmaan believes in the recovery process and the spiritual principles following which millions of addicts are maintaining their recovery worldwide.
